Is It Just a Game? 2007

Located on the grounds of the Art Complex Museum Duxbury, Massachusetts

After researching the history of the Duxbury community and the history of the northeastern region of the United States I developed this large-scale construction. The structure is based on the historical and cultural context of the game of Lacrosse which was taken and transformed from an American Indian part of to a gaming past time adapted to be played as “gentlemen’s” game. The sculpture is based on a traditional Lacrosse stick, which is represented by pieces of tree saplings, branches and tree trunk. The piece transforms along the shaft into a contemporary lacrosse stick structure made out of milled white pine lumber.
